Sound: I can only describe it in one word and that is: Indie. It felt like I was watching a true situation being laid out before me. For an animation, it really made me feel like these things were realistic because of how precise all the character's facial expressions were and how the bombings turned out. Though it may seem like a boring subject to base anime on, do not be fooled because as you watch more and more of it, you realize that there is much more that goes on, but I won't spoil it for you.Īrt: Well, the art is just absolutely gorgeous. As you can see from the summary of the animation, it is based on theĬorruption of the world's government.

Story: The story really is quite captivating, I could not stop watching each episode and finished this whole series in one sitting. Woah boy, I did NOT expect the emotional train ride I just signed myself up for. At first, I never was interested in this anime AT ALL, but then I saw some wicked edits of it on Vine and the animation seemed pretty unique so I thought I should try it out. It brought out some new emotions that I've never felt before. Sadly, there may not be another anime focused on terrorism for a long time. However, if you are set on watching the show, it won't be the worst experience ever as there are far worse shows out there.

Since two thirds of the show are fairly frustrating to watch, I can't recommend Zankyou no Terror to anyone. With everything going well for the first third of the series, it's disappointing to see things fall apart as they did. If there was ever an anime that would be described as "wasted potential", Zankyou no Terror is it. It is clear that great care was taken for the technical aspects of the show. As for the animation quality, everything is fluid and of a high production value from beginning to end. The soundtrack is perhaps one of the best I have ever heard enhancing every scene and aspect of the show and is good enough to listen to over and over as a stand alone album. The most notable is the music, done by Yoko Kanno (known for Cowboy Bebop as well as many other anime). Any commentary on issues such as the lasting effects of nuclear bombings, USA's influence on Japan and general government corruption are rushed through, leaving no impact on anyone watching.īut there are still some positives to Zankyou no Terror that lasted for longer than the first four episodes of the show the cinematography, animation quality and soundtrack. The terrorist attacks are portrayed as harmless when clearly many people would have been affected Shibazaki is the same as he was in the beginning of the series The second antagonist's actions didn't affect the overall plot, nor did they help convey any message Lisa is completely insignificant to the plot The main duo never get developed past being savants with a bad past Hence, this is the situation that's left when the series concludes (without spoilers): When these antics are finished, it's already the last episode of the show. Now with a new antagonist, Zankyou no Terror spends the next few episodes focused on the random antics of the antagonist instead of exploring the themes and characters introduced in the first few episodes. This ruins the grounded feel the anime had over the previous episodes. Having a new antagonist isn't always a bad thing, however in this case there isn't much time to develop another character and the new antagonist is almost cartoonishly evil (there's a minor explanation of her personality later on, but it isn't enough to excuse her antics). Here, they decide to throw a spanner in the works a new antagonist is introduced. Zankyou no Terror continues over the next two episodes in a similar vein to the previous two, but then episode five comes along.

While at the time this wasn't a major issue, it was the first moment where it seemed the show could be flawed. But one odd thing is mentioned the idea that the terrorist attack in the first episode didn't kill anyone. Again, like the pilot, the second episode is just as intense. The aftermath of the terrorist attack, before the next terrorist attack happens, this time with a riddle involved for the police to solve. This episode is fast paced, well directed, intense and sets the bar high for the series. The first episode focuses on the two young terrorists as they carry out a terrorist attack on an office building. The first few episodes of this series are executed well. However, now that months have past since the series has finished airing, it's now possible to review this anime series without having the over-reactions and other influences that hype trains entail. Being a Watanabe project, and his first since Sakamichi no Apollon, Zankyou no Terror was always going to fall victim to the "hype train".
